And so I have been on the eighteenth overnight stay on my challenge for the year: 52 Weeks of Wilderness: A Year of Adventure Camping and Hiking in the Stavanger Area, Norway

The forecast promised a night of splendid weather, and with clear skies ahead, I saw the perfect opportunity for a sunset adventure and this year's first overnight stay beneath the stars—without the shelter of a tent or hammock. My hopes for a stunning sunset were high, and nature did not disappoint.

I chose to spend the night on the outer edge of an island (Bru), a place I knew would offer a front-row seat to any potential sunset display. This area is seldom frequented by people, so I had the privilege of solitude, save for the cows, sheep, geese, and various other creatures that inhabit this remote locale.

I found an ideal spot to settle down for the night, a large mossy knoll serving as a natural backrest. The sunset unfolded spectacularly, allowing me to sit back and savor each phase in tranquil awe. Sleep came easily, like a rock, until the early morning when an owl's hooting nearby stirred me from my slumber—a pleasant awakening, as it was time to rise with the day.

Morning brought with it the ritual of brewing coffee, which I enjoyed from the comfort of my sleeping bag before leisurely strolling back to my car for the short drive home.

Once again, it was proven that one need not venture far to encounter the spectacular gifts of nature.

See you on the trail!!
