✨ What to Expect on the Fjord

This private 3-hour fjord fishing tour takes place in calm, sheltered coastal waters just outside Stavanger. It is designed as a peaceful and authentic introduction to Norwegian coastal fishing, away from crowds and busy tourist routes.

The experience focuses on a relaxed balance between fishing, learning and scenic fjord cruising, rather than covering long distances or fishing intensively. This makes the tour well suited for first-time visitors who want to understand fjord fishing without feeling rushed.

We operate from a premium, stable adventure boat with a warm cabin and comfortable seating. The pace is unhurried, with full focus on comfort, safety and enjoying time on the water.

Standard fishing equipment is included and well suited for beginners. Guests are welcome to bring their own gear if they prefer. Your guide explains simple, effective techniques and adapts the experience to each guest’s interests, experience level and comfort.

Using modern sonar and local knowledge, we explore underwater ridges, glacial formations and natural fish habitats commonly found in the fjord. The emphasis is on learning how the fjord system works - not on guaranteed catches.

The tour takes place entirely on the water, without shore landings. This allows more time to fish, observe the surroundings and understand the marine environment.

Along the way, there are excellent opportunities to observe seabirds, coastal wildlife and dramatic fjord scenery. If fish are caught, your guide can demonstrate basic fish handling on board, depending on time and interest.

The route and pace are always adjusted to weather and sea conditions to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. We return via scenic coastal channels to Stavanger harbour, conveniently located near the city centre and cruise port.

A calm, private and genuine fjord fishing experience - designed as a short, comfortable and meaningful introduction to fishing and fjord life in Norway, ideal for first-time visitors.

ABOUT  YOUR GUIDE

My name is Espen, and I’m the fishing guide behind Stavanger Adventure. I grew up fishing the fjords and coastal waters around Stavanger - from shallow rocky bays to deep channels shaped by ancient glaciers. These waters have always been my second home.

Coastal fishing, to me, is about calmness, learning and being close to nature. I enjoy showing guests how simple and enjoyable Norwegian saltwater fishing can be, whether it’s your first time holding a rod or you’ve fished for years.

Each spot has its own character, and I love sharing the local knowledge that helps us find fish year-round. On my fishing trips, we use high-quality rods and simple, effective techniques that work for beginners and experienced anglers alike. We often catch species such as cod, pollock and mackerel - but part of the fun is that you never know what might strike.

As a certified boat operator, I always focus on safety, good seamanship and giving guests a comfortable experience on the water.

ABOUT THE BOAT

Your fishing experience takes place aboard a Axopar 28 Cabin - a modern, comfortable and stable adventure boat designed for safe coastal fishing.

The enclosed cabin provides shelter from wind and spray, allowing guests to stay warm, relaxed and comfortable throughout the tour. The boat is well suited for beginners, experienced anglers, families and older guests alike.

We use top-class sonar and fish-finding technology, helping us locate fish and understand the underwater terrain. Advanced positioning features allow the boat to hold a steady position while fishing, creating a calm and controlled environment ideal for guiding and learning.

An onboard toilet and spacious deck add extra comfort, making the experience smooth, safe and enjoyable from start to finish.

  • Yes - all tours are fully private.
You will never be combined with other guests.

  • The tour is suitable for beginners and experienced anglers, as well as older guests who appreciate a calm, comfortable pace on the water. Children may join if they are comfortable following instructions and safety guidance.

For safety, comfort and quality, we fish with a maximum of two rods in the water at the same time, regardless of group size. This ensures a relaxed atmosphere and allows the guide to provide proper instruction, supervision and support throughout the tour.

    Seasickness is rare.

If you know you are sensitive to motion, you may consider taking seasickness medication before the tour.

  • No - fishing can never be guaranteed.

However, we fish actively using local knowledge, sonar and proven techniques, and focus on making the experience rewarding and engaging regardless of catch.

  • We fish in shallow coastal fjord waters where species like cod, pollock, mackerel, saithe and various smaller coastal species are common.

We almost always catch fish on our trips, but there is never a 100% guarantee - conditions vary with weather, season and depth.

Our focus is on learning and enjoying the experience. Some tours include preparing and tasting parts of the catch on board or during a short break, while most fishing is catch & release.

For guests with special interests, we can also explore slightly deeper areas where species such as spiny dogfish (small shark), tusk and ling may appear, depending on conditions.
We adapt the techniques, depth and use of sonar each day to give you the best possible experience.

  • The difference is mainly how much time we have to explore, fish and slow down:

    • 3-hour tour
A short and focused fjord fishing experience close to Stavanger, ideal for guests with limited time.

    • 5-hour tour
A more relaxed experience with time to explore a wider area, fish longer at selected spots, and enjoy breaks on the water or ashore.

    • 7-hour tour
The most immersive option, including the possibility to go ashore and prepare a simple outdoor meal from the catch (if successful), with time to slow down and enjoy the fjord from both boat and land.

All tours are private and fully tailored to your group.

  • We don’t offer instant checkout.

To book, simply send us a request with your preferred date and group size.

After receiving your request, we’ll get in touch to discuss your wishes, timing and weather conditions, and tailor the experience to suit you. This personal approach allows us to create a calm, well-planned and flexible private tour.

Payment is made on the day of the tour, using a portable card terminal or cash.

There is no cancellation fee. However, we kindly ask that cancellations are made as early as possible. Last-minute cancellations may prevent other guests from booking and affect our guiding schedule.

  • Safety always comes first.

If conditions are unsafe, we adjust the route, reschedule, or cancel with a full refund if no suitable alternative is possible. Weather decisions are made conservatively and professionally.

Since you don’t pay anything in advance, you won’t be charged if the tour has to be cancelled due to weather.

Sharing a phone number is optional, but highly recommended. It allows us to reach you quickly if conditions change shortly before the hike, so we can update you and confirm your preference.

Your safety and comfort always come first.

  • Not included:

    • Personal clothing (beyond safety and flotation suits)

    • Travel insurance

  • Dress according to the weather.

We recommend comfortable outdoor clothing, sturdy shoes, and personal snacks if desired.
