CUSTOM TOURS IN STAVANGER & LYSEFJORD

Private custom tours in Stavanger and Lysefjord

Looking for something more personal than a standard tour? I create private custom tours in Stavanger and Lysefjord for couples, families and small groups — combining hiking, private fjord experiences, fishing, local food and quieter places that many visitors never see.

Every experience is planned around you. Tell me how much time you have, what you enjoy and how active you want the day to be, and I can build an itinerary around your interests, fitness, group and the conditions. That might mean hiking Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), exploring Lysefjord by private boat, discovering a lesser-known trail, going fishing or combining several experiences in one day.

Custom tours can range from a few hours to full-day and multi-day adventures. I can also create private shore excursions for cruise ship guests, with pickup close to the port and the day planned carefully around your ship’s schedule. You deal directly with me from the first idea to the experience itself.

CUSTOM EXPERIENCES

Tailor-Made Day

Your day, built around you

Not every great day needs to follow a standard tour. You may have limited time, a mix of interests, different fitness levels or simply want to experience Stavanger in a more personal way.

Tell me who you are travelling with, how much time you have and what you enjoy. I can suggest a realistic private day built around your group, the weather and what works best locally.

The plan might include a short hike, a scenic viewpoint, local history, time by the coast, traditional Norwegian waffles or simply a quiet place worth stopping for. The idea is not to fit in as much as possible — but to create a day that feels right for you.

Short & Scenic

MAKE THE MOST OF A FEW HOURS

You do not need a full day to have a memorable experience. I can combine a shorter walk or viewpoint with a relaxed local stop, coffee, waffles or time somewhere away from the busiest places.

2–4 hours · Flexible · Easy to moderate · Private

A Little of Everything

MIX EXPERIENCES IN ONE DAY

If you enjoy variety, we can combine several smaller experiences instead of spending the whole day on one activity — perhaps a short hike, local food, coastal scenery, a historical stop or some time on the water.

Half or full day · Mixed experiences · Flexible plan · Private

Built Around Your Group

DIFFERENT PEOPLE. ONE GOOD DAY.

Travelling with children, grandparents, different fitness levels or simply different interests? I can shape the day so everyone can be part of the experience without having to follow a fixed pace or programme.

Families · Couples · Friends · Mixed fitness levels

MANY WAYS TO BUILD THE DAY

Start with what matters to you

These are only examples. Your custom day can start with a place you want to see, an activity you want to try, a limited amount of time or simply a feeling you want from the day.

Tell me how much time you have, who you are travelling with and what sounds interesting. I can suggest a personal and realistic plan based on the season, weather, logistics and your group.

CUSTOM EXPERIENCES

Hiking & Hidden Trails

Go beyond the famous trails

The Stavanger region offers far more than the well-known hikes to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) and Kjerag. There are quieter mountains, hidden trails and viewpoints where the experience feels more local and far less crowded.

Tell me how much time you have, your fitness level and the kind of hike you enjoy, and I can suggest a route that suits your group and the conditions — from shorter adventures to full mountain days.

Every hike is private and adapted to your pace. There is time to enjoy the landscape, stop for photos and experience the mountains without rushing from one landmark to the next.

Hiker resting on a rocky ledge with a wide fjord view on The Hat hiking route near Stavanger.

The Hat

A SHORTER, MORE RUGGED HIKE

A shorter mountain adventure with rugged terrain, a distinctive rock formation and rewarding views. The Hat is a great choice if you want something different from the famous trails without committing to a full mountain day.

3–4 hours · Moderate · Great views · Fewer people

Reinaknuten

A REWARDING MOUNTAIN EXPERIENCE

A beautiful and demanding mountain hike with wide views across fjords, lakes and surrounding peaks. Reinaknuten gives you a real sense of being in the Norwegian mountains, with quieter trails, varied terrain and plenty of elevation.

5–6 hours · Demanding · Panoramic views · Quiet trails

Ramnstoknuten

A LONGER AND MORE DEMANDING HIKE

A longer mountain day through varied and more remote terrain, with impressive views and a real feeling of leaving the usual routes behind. Suits guests who want a bigger day in the mountains and plenty of time away from the busiest trails.

5–6 hours · Demanding · Varied terrain · Remote feel

MANY MORE POSSIBILITIES

These are only a few examples

These are just three of many hiking possibilities around Stavanger and Lysefjord. I can choose a route for your group based on the weather, season, fitness level, available time and the kind of landscape you want to experience.

Whether you prefer a short walk, a quiet viewpoint, a family-friendly hike or a more challenging mountain day, I can suggest an experience that fits.

CUSTOM EXPERIENCES

Coastal & Island Adventures

Leave the usual route behind

The coast around Stavanger is made up of islands, sheltered bays, rocky shorelines and small places that are easy to pass without ever really experiencing them.

Instead of following a fixed sightseeing route, I can use the boat to reach quieter coastal areas and shape the day around the weather, sea conditions and what interests you most.

The experience can be active or relaxed — step ashore for a short walk, explore an island, find a sheltered place for lunch or simply slow down and spend more time somewhere that feels special.

Island Landings & Exploration

STEP ASHORE AND DISCOVER

Use the boat to reach small islands, sheltered shorelines and places rarely visited by larger tour boats. Depending on the conditions, we can go ashore for a short walk, explore the coastline or simply spend some time somewhere quiet.

Island landing · Short walks · Quiet places · Flexible

Coastal Discovery

GET CLOSER TO COASTAL LIFE

Some stops can become small experiences of their own — searching for crabs along the shore, pulling a crab trap, discovering marine life or visiting ancient rock carvings. The activity is chosen around your group and the season.

Hands-on · Nature · Local history · Family-friendly

Slow Island Moments

SLOW DOWN SOMEWHERE SPECIAL

Time for a simple shore lunch, Norwegian waffles, warm drinks or a campfire when conditions allow. On selected experiences, other possibilities may include a seaside sauna, a swim, an island garden or a quiet viewpoint reached on foot.

Outdoor food · Swimming · Sauna · Relaxed pace

MANY MORE POSSIBILITIES

These are only a few examples

The coastline offers many more possibilities, and the best plan does not always need a fixed destination. I can choose where we go based on the weather, sea conditions, available time and the kind of experience you are looking for.

You might prefer island hopping, a quiet bay, a short walk, swimming on a warm day or simply a relaxed private boat day with time to stop when somewhere looks worth exploring.

CUSTOM EXPERIENCES

Full-Day & Multi-Day

Stay longer. Experience more.

When you have more time, the experience can become much more than a single activity. A full day or multi-day adventure gives us the freedom to combine mountains, fjord, fishing, local food and quieter places without rushing from one stop to the next.

I can build the itinerary around your interests, fitness level, available time and where you are staying. With several days available, we can also use the weather more intelligently — choosing the best activity for the conditions rather than being locked into a fixed plan.

You deal directly with me throughout the planning, and I can help create a natural flow from one experience to the next.

Mountain & Fjord Full Day

FROM THE TRAIL TO THE WATER

Combine a mountain experience with a private boat trip in one complete day. One option is an early hike to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), followed by lunch and a relaxed journey through Lysefjord.

It gives you the chance to experience the same landscape from two perspectives — first from the trail high above the fjord, then from the water.

Full day · Hiking + boat · Private · Flexible timing

Cabin or Camp Overnight

STAY OUT IN THE LANDSCAPE

Extend the experience with an overnight stay in the mountains — either in a private cabin or, for something more adventurous, in a tent.

Enjoy a simple outdoor meal, time by the fire when conditions allow, and a quiet morning before continuing the journey.

Overnight · Cabin or tent · Outdoor food · Hiking

Two or Three Days Your Way

BUILD A JOURNEY, NOT JUST A TOUR

With several days available, we can combine different sides of the Stavanger region — perhaps hiking, private fishing, time on the fjord and quieter local experiences.

When possible, I can adapt each day to the weather and conditions, giving you more flexibility and helping you make the most of your time.

2–3 days or more · Hiking · Fjord · Fishing · Tailor-made

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about private custom tours in Stavanger

Planning a tailor-made day, private shore excursion or multi-day adventure in Stavanger? Here are answers to some of the questions guests most often ask about private hiking, Lysefjord boat tours, fishing, coastal experiences and custom itineraries.

  • A private custom tour is an experience designed around your group rather than a fixed itinerary. Tell me how much time you have, who you are travelling with and what you enjoy, and I can suggest a realistic plan based on your interests, the season, weather and local conditions.

The experience can focus on one activity or combine several different parts of the Stavanger and Lysefjord region.

  • Yes. Stavanger Adventure offers private experiences only.

Your day is reserved for your group, with no strangers added. This gives us much more freedom with timing, pace, stops and the overall itinerary.

  • There are many possibilities. A custom day can include hiking, Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), quieter local trails, a private Lysefjord boat tour, fishing, island exploration, coastal walks, viewpoints, local history, Old Stavanger, outdoor food or simply time somewhere worth slowing down for.

Longer itineraries can also include cabin stays, tent camping and several different experiences over two or more days.

  • Yes. Combining different experiences is one of the main advantages of a tailor-made tour.

Depending on the time available, we might combine a hike with a private boat journey, add fishing to a day on the fjord or divide different activities across several days.

I prefer to leave enough time to enjoy each part properly rather than trying to fit too much into one day.

  • Yes. This can be one of the best full-day combinations in the Stavanger region.

A typical plan could start with an early private hike to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), followed by lunch and a private boat journey through Lysefjord. You first experience the famous plateau from above and later see the same cliff from the water below.

The exact timing and logistics are adapted to your group and the conditions.

  • Yes. A custom experience does not have to take a full day.

If you only have a few hours, I can suggest a shorter hike, scenic viewpoint, private boat experience, coastal stop, Stavanger walk or another combination that makes good use of your time.

  • Anything from a few hours to several days.

A short experience might focus on one scenic area. A full day gives us more freedom to combine activities, while a multi-day itinerary can include hiking, fishing, fjord experiences and overnight stays.

Tell me how much time you have and I can suggest how to use it well.

  • Yes. Many of my guests visit Stavanger by cruise ship.

I plan private shore excursions around your ship's arrival and all-aboard time and keep track of the schedule throughout the day. I also allow a comfortable return margin rather than planning the itinerary right up to departure.

If I believe an activity is too ambitious for your time in port, I will suggest a shorter alternative.

  • Pickup depends on the experience, but I can normally meet you at your hotel, close to your cruise ship, at Stavanger Airport or at another agreed location in the Stavanger area.

For some custom combinations, different pickup and departure points may make the day smoother. These details are planned with you beforehand.

  • Often, yes.

For example, a combined hiking and boat day could start in Stavanger, continue from another harbour after the hike and finish by boat back in central Stavanger.

Different start and finish points depend on the itinerary, but I can help coordinate the logistics.

  • Most experiences are designed for small private groups.

Boat experiences are normally available for up to six guests. Hiking and land-based experiences may sometimes accommodate larger groups, but this can require additional transport, logistics or another guide.

Tell me your group size and I will recommend the best setup.

  • Yes. Private tours work particularly well for families because the pace and activities can be adapted to the children rather than following a fixed group schedule.

Depending on their ages and interests, I can suggest shorter hikes, fishing, coastal exploration, island stops, wildlife, viewpoints or a combination of activities.

For boat experiences, I will ask for children's age and size so suitable safety equipment can be prepared.

  • Yes. This is one of the main advantages of a tailor-made experience.

Families and groups often include people with different fitness levels, ages or interests. I can choose activities, routes and stops that allow the group to enjoy the day together without forcing everyone into the same type of demanding experience.

  • That depends entirely on what you choose.

A custom tour can range from an easy scenic day with very little walking to a long and demanding mountain hike.

Tell me honestly about your normal activity level and hiking experience, and I will suggest something appropriate. You do not need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy a private outdoor experience around Stavanger.

  • Please mention this when you contact me.

Many mountain trails involve rocks, uneven terrain and steps, while getting on and off a boat also requires some mobility. However, easier viewpoints, boat-based experiences, city walks and relaxed coastal stops may be much more suitable.

The goal is to create a good day for your group, not to push someone into an unsuitable activity.

  • Not for most custom experiences.

If you are considering a demanding hike, your experience and fitness become more important. For easier walks, fishing, fjord experiences and coastal activities, previous experience is normally not necessary.

I will help you choose an experience that matches your group.

  • Weather is part of travelling in Western Norway, and rain alone does not normally mean an experience has to be cancelled.

I monitor the forecast, trail conditions and sea conditions closely. When possible, I can adjust the timing, route or activity to give you a better and safer experience.

If I have to cancel because conditions are unsafe and no suitable alternative can be agreed, any payment made for the cancelled experience will be refunded in full.

  • Yes. Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of a custom tour.

If conditions in the mountains are poor but the coast is good, or sea conditions make one area less suitable, I can often change the route, timing or order of activities.

With a multi-day itinerary, we have even more freedom to match different activities to the best weather window.

  • Late spring through early autumn normally offers the widest range of hiking, boating, fishing and coastal experiences.

Conditions vary considerably through the year, however. Daylight, snow, trail conditions, temperature, wind and sea conditions can all affect what is possible.

Tell me your travel dates and I can suggest the experiences that normally work best at that time of year.

  • Yes. Selected custom and multi-day experiences can include an overnight stay in a private mountain cabin or a more adventurous night in a tent.

An overnight can be combined with hiking, simple outdoor food and a quiet evening in nature. A campfire may also be possible when local rules, season and conditions allow.

Cabin and overnight arrangements are planned individually and are subject to availability.

  • Yes.

Depending on the itinerary, this might include a simple lunch, snacks, coffee, hot drinks, traditional Norwegian waffles or an outdoor meal during a longer experience.

If anyone in your group has allergies, dietary requirements or particular preferences, let me know when we plan the day.

  • Yes. A custom itinerary does not have to be entirely about mountains and fjords.

I can include a private walk through Stavanger, the harbour and Old Stavanger, with local history and stories about how the city developed from fishing and canning to today's energy industry.

This can work particularly well as part of a shorter day or as one element of a multi-day visit.

  • Boat experiences are normally operated aboard my Axopar 28 Cabin.

It has an enclosed cabin, heating, outdoor seating, safety equipment and a small toilet for emergency use. The boat is well suited to private groups of up to six guests and gives us the flexibility to explore Lysefjord, the coastline and smaller islands at our own pace.

  • Yes. Previous fishing experience is not required.

I provide the equipment and help with the techniques during the trip. Because the experience is private, I can adapt the fishing to beginners, families or guests with more experience.

Fishing conditions and catches naturally vary from day to day.

  • Yes, photos from the experience are included where practical.

I enjoy documenting the day, particularly during hiking, fishing and scenic outdoor experiences, so you can spend more time enjoying the experience rather than worrying about taking every photo yourself.

  • I personally plan the experience with you and normally guide the day myself.

That means you communicate directly with the same person who will actually be with you during the experience — from the first enquiry to the day itself.

For larger groups or arrangements requiring additional specialist support, I can bring in another suitable guide when needed.

  • The exact inclusions depend on the itinerary and will always be explained before you confirm.

Depending on the experience, this may include private guiding, itinerary planning, agreed transportation, boat use, fishing equipment, safety equipment, photos and food or refreshments.

Any additional costs such as rental vehicles, accommodation, private transfers or additional guides will be agreed in advance.

  • There is no single fixed price because each custom experience is different.

As a general guide, a typical private full-day experience for a small group starts at around 15,000 NOK. More complex itineraries involving private boat use, fishing, accommodation, additional transport or several days will cost more.

Shorter and simpler experiences may cost less. Once I know your group size, available time and what you would like to experience, I can suggest a realistic itinerary and give you a clear total price before anything is confirmed.

  • No.

You can certainly tell me exactly what you want, but you can also simply tell me your dates, how much time you have, who you are travelling with and what kinds of experiences appeal to you.

I can take it from there and suggest a realistic plan.

  • Send me your preferred date, group size, how much time you have and a little about what you would like to experience.

I will reply personally, check availability and suggest a plan. Once we agree on the date, itinerary, group size and price, I can reserve the experience for you.

  • For most single-day Stavanger Adventure experiences, no deposit is required and payment can be made by card or cash on the day.

For multi-day experiences, larger custom itineraries or bookings that reserve several high-season dates, I may ask for a 20% advance payment to secure the booking.

An advance payment may also be required if I need to make non-refundable arrangements on your behalf, such as renting an additional vehicle or arranging an external guide.

Any advance payment is deducted from the final price, and the payment and cancellation terms will always be clear before you confirm.

  • Payment can normally be made by card or cash on the day of the experience.

If you prefer to pay before your visit, I can send you a secure SumUp payment link in advance.

Any special payment arrangement will be confirmed clearly before the experience.

  • The cancellation conditions depend partly on the arrangements involved, particularly if I have booked third-party services specifically for your group.

The applicable cancellation terms will be clear when your booking is confirmed, and full details are available in Stavanger Adventure's Terms & Conditions.

If I have to cancel because weather or conditions make the experience unsafe and no suitable alternative can be agreed, you will not be charged for the cancelled experience and any applicable payment made to Stavanger Adventure will be refunded.

  • If your travel date is fixed, earlier is better — particularly during the main summer and cruise season.

Because every experience is private, accepting one booking often means reserving that time exclusively for one group.

Last-minute enquiries are still very welcome whenever I have availability.

  • The most useful information is your preferred date, number of guests, ages of any children, where you are staying or your cruise ship schedule, how much time you have and the types of experiences that interest you.

It also helps to mention your general fitness level, any mobility limitations, dietary requirements and anything you definitely want — or do not want — included.

If you are not sure what you want, that is completely fine. Tell me a little about your group and I can suggest the rest.
