✨ What to Expect on the Fjord
This private 5-hour fjord tour takes place in calm, sheltered coastal waters around the islands of Stavanger’s outer fjord area. With more time available, the experience allows for a deeper and more flexible exploration of Norway’s coastal fjord landscape - always at a relaxed, unhurried pace.
The tour is operated from a premium, stable adventure boat with a warm enclosed cabin and comfortable seating. This allows us to travel comfortably and safely while focusing on presence, learning and enjoying the surroundings rather than rushing between locations.
The experience combines scenic coastal cruising with guiding and storytelling. Your guide shares insights into the fjord and coastal landscape, wildlife, geology and local history - shaped by ice, water, tides and human life over thousands of years. We slow down or pause at selected locations when it adds value to the experience.
Using local knowledge, we explore sheltered channels, open coastal stretches and quiet areas around the islands of the Byfjord. The emphasis is on observation, learning and understanding the coastal fjord environment rather than covering long distances.
During the tour, there are excellent opportunities to observe seabirds, coastal wildlife and beautiful shoreline scenery. Depending on interests and conditions, guests may choose to swim, explore the shoreline, land on a small island, or simply enjoy quiet moments on the water.
The route and pace are always adjusted to weather, sea conditions and guest preferences to ensure a safe, comfortable and meaningful experience. We return via scenic coastal routes to Stavanger harbour, conveniently located near the city centre and cruise port.
A calm, private and genuine coastal fjord experience - with time to explore, learn and slow down.

About your Guide
My name is Espen, and I’m the local fjord guide and certified boat operator behind Stavanger Adventure. I grew up on the southwest coast of Norway, and the fjords, islands and sheltered bays around Stavanger and Lysefjorden have been a part of my life since childhood.
For me, fjord guiding is not only about travelling through beautiful scenery - it’s about understanding how this coastline was shaped by nature and the people who lived here for generations. When I take guests onto the water, I want them to feel that same connection.
On my fjord adventures, I focus on safe, calm fjord travel with meaningful storytelling about nature, wildlife and the fjord landscape.

About the Boat
Your fjord experience takes place aboard a modern Axopar 28 Cabin, offering a safe, stable and comfortable setting for relaxed fjord cruising. The enclosed cabin provides shelter from wind and spray, keeping guests warm and comfortable throughout the tour.
The boat is well suited for a wide range of guests, and allows us to move at a calm, unhurried pace that is ideal for guiding, learning and enjoying the surroundings.
Large windows and open deck areas offer excellent views of the fjord landscape and wildlife, while modern navigation systems allow us to make calm stops at selected points of interest. An onboard toilet and spacious deck add extra comfort, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.

FAQ - Fjord Adventures
Yes. Our fjord tours are designed to be calm, comfortable and unhurried. We move at a relaxed pace, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, listen to stories and simply experience the fjord without any physical demands.
Yes. All fjord tours are fully private. This allows us to adapt the pace, route and focus entirely to your group - whether you prefer learning, sightseeing, photography or quiet moments on the water. Every trip is tailored to your pace, experience level and interests for a calm, personal and high-quality fjord experience.
Each fjord tour is private and shaped by both the duration of the tour and what you would like to experience. The focus is always on calm fjord cruising combined with guiding, storytelling and learning - but what we have time to include varies naturally between a 3-, 5- or 7-hour tour.
On shorter tours, the experience typically focuses on scenic fjord cruising close to Stavanger, learning about the landscape, wildlife and local history, with time to slow down, observe and enjoy the fjord environment.
On longer tours, we have more flexibility to explore a wider area and include additional experiences. Depending on conditions and guest interests, this may include viewing Pulpit Rock from the water, wildlife observation such as porpoises and seabirds, light fishing, swimming in calm conditions, or visiting cultural landmarks like ancient rock carvings or the viking monastery, Utstein Kloster.
If guests wish and conditions allow, we may also go ashore for short walks, exploring the shoreline, searching for crabs (a favourite with children), or preparing a simple campfire.
Because the tour is private, the route, pace and focus are adapted along the way - balancing what is possible within the time available with what you are most curious to experience.
If guests wish and conditions allow, we can go ashore for a short walk, rest or closer exploration of the surroundings. Going ashore is optional and always adapted to weather, safety and guest comfort.
