✨ What to Expect on the Trail
The hike to Ramnstoknuten begins gently along a quiet gravel road beside a mountain lake, passing scattered cabins and calm surroundings. This easy first section allows you to warm up, settle into the landscape, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before the terrain gradually becomes more varied.
After leaving the road, the trail transitions into natural paths through open hills, forest sections, and rocky terrain. The landscape feels remote and untouched, with very few other hikers and occasional sightings of free-roaming sheep, adding to the authentic mountain character of the area.
As we gain elevation, the views open dramatically. From the summit of Ramnstoknuten, a stone cairn marks the peak, where you’re rewarded with sweeping panoramic views over Høgsfjorden and the dramatic Frafjord valley below - a perfect place to pause, rest, and take in the silence of the Norwegian wilderness.
With a private guide, the hike is fully adapted to your pace and comfort. We take flexible breaks at scenic viewpoints, share local insight into nature and weather, and ensure a calm, safe, and personal hiking experience throughout the day.

What your day will look like
Your hike is fully personalised - from pick-up to pace, breaks and timing.
Here’s what a typical day looks like:

TRANSITION TO NATURAL TRAILS
After leaving the gravel road, the route follows natural mountain paths through open hills and light forest.
The surroundings feel increasingly remote, with wide views, soft terrain, and very few other hikers. Free-roaming sheep are often seen along the trail, adding to the authentic local character.

SCENIC START BY THE LAKE
YWe begin the hike along a quiet gravel road beside a peaceful mountain lake.
This gentle opening section passes scattered cabins and calm surroundings, allowing you to warm up, settle into the rhythm of the day, and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere before the terrain gradually changes.

FINAL ASCENT TO THE SUMMIT
A steady climb leads us toward the summit of Ramnstoknuten.
At the top, a stone cairn marks the peak, rewarding your efforts with sweeping panoramic views over Høgsfjorden and the dramatic Frøfjord valley below.
We take a well-deserved break here to rest, enjoy a warm drink, and take in the silence of the mountains.

ROLLING TERRAIN AND VALLEY DESCENT
The trail continues through gently rolling landscapes before descending into a quieter, forested section.
This part of the hike offers contrast, shelter, and beautiful photo opportunities. During warmer months, a freshwater stream provides a natural place to refill water bottles and cool down before the next ascent.

RETURN WITH NEW PERSPECTIVES
After our summit break, we begin the return hike along the same route.
Changing light and scenery offer fresh perspectives, and if time and energy allow, we can explore short scenic detours for additional viewpoints and photography before completing the hike.
After the hike, your private transport takes you comfortably back to Stavanger.

About Your Guide
My name is Espen, and I’m a local guide born and raised in the Stavanger region. I’ve spent my life exploring the mountains and fjords around Lysefjorden, and I love sharing these places with guests from around the world.
On my hikes, I focus on calm pace, safety, and creating a deeper connection to Norwegian nature.

ABOUT YOUR GUIDE
My name is Espen, and I’m the local guide behind Stavanger Adventure.
I grew up in the Stavanger region, with the mountains, forests and fjords around Lysefjorden as a natural part of everyday life.
Over the years, I’ve explored countless hiking trails - from iconic routes like Preikestolen to quiet local paths only known to people from this area.
On my guided hikes, I focus on a calm pace, safety, and creating a deeper connection to Norwegian nature. Along the way, I share insights about geology, wildlife, weather, local culture and the history of the region. For me, hiking is not about rushing to the top, but about understanding the landscape and experiencing it in a meaningful way.
Stavanger Adventure is a small, locally owned guiding company. I guide most hikes myself, and for larger groups or custom requests, I work with trusted local partners. This allows us to offer high-quality private hiking experiences that remain personal, flexible and authentic.

Espen was an absolutely fantastic tour guide - honestly one of the best we've ever had, and we travel quite a bit.
I don't usually take the time to write reviews for tour guides, but Espen absolutely deserves the recognition. If you're looking to go hiking in Norway or want a more active adventure beyond the typical tourist activities, I cannot recommend him highly enough. 10/10 review for sure. I would even go beyond to give him a 12/10 if I could.
Thank you again, Espen, for making our time in Norway so memorable!

Espen took me and my parents up Pulpit rock and it was great! He was very nice, personable, and laid back.
He came prepared with a safety recording prior to the hike, had food/water for us during the hike and at the top and also came with a camera and drone for amazing pictures.
Overall 10/10 would recommend him as a guide!

FAQ – Hiking Adventures
We recommend sturdy hiking shoes with good grip - the trail includes rocky sections, natural stone steps and uneven terrain.
Wear comfortable outdoor clothing in layers, such as:
-
a windproof/waterproof jacket
-
a warm mid-layer (fleece or wool)
-
hat and gloves (even in summer, depending on the weather)
-
optional: light backpack for water, snacks and extra layers
Weather in the fjords can change quickly - even on sunny days - so dressing in layers is essential.
If you’re unsure what to pack, we’ll send you a simple clothing checklist after booking.-
